While trauma-informed care sets the stage for a supportive environment, trauma treatment dives deep into personal healing.

Some examples of trauma-specific approaches include:

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT): A type of cognitive-behavioral therapy that helps patients learn how to challenge and modify beliefs related to the trauma that can keep them stuck.

Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE): Gradually builds exposure to trauma-related reminders in order to learn health coping strategies, challenge problematic thoughts, and reduce avoidance.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR): Focuses on processing distressing trauma-related memories, thoughts, and feelings through guided eye movements to reduce the vividness and emotion associated with these memories.

TREC DC offers these approaches and more to help you work through your trauma. Understanding the options can empower you to seek the right help and support for your recovery.
