Engaging in activities that combat stress are important for parents managing stressful situations. It also helps your child to learn how to cope with their own stress as well.

Here are some effective ways for parents to practice self-care:
x Engage in activities that you are passionate about
x Take some time to yourself, such as on a walk/exercising
x Reach out to friends you haven’t seen in a while
x Learning when to say NO to others’ requests

SPOTLIGHT: Special time with your child!

Did you know that 5-10 minutes of special time with your child every day can have powerful positive effects? Special time is when parents engage in activities with their child that encourage relationship building, and help model good behavior for children. It is important that parents give their child their full attention during this time.

Here are some important tips for special time:
x Let your child share without direction, pressure, or demands
x Watch and describe what your child does to let them know you’re engaged and interested
x Praise your child’s positive behaviors
x Avoid criticism
x Try not to use electronics as talking to your child during a show can be annoying, and model interruptive behavior
