Last week, our campaign held a Precinct Delegate Forum that was masterfully organized by Paul Vial and Lydia Lawrenson and included special guest County Treasurer Robert Wittenberg. It was wonderful to meet with and hear from so many committed community organizers.

This event was also Lydia's Fellowship Capstone Project. Lydia shared with us a summary of the evening:

Thank you to everyone who joined our Precinct Delegate and Community Organizer Forum, and a special thank you to our guest speaker, Oakland County Treasurer Robert Wittenberg.

The evening began with opening remarks from Natalie, who shared what she learned during her visit to Minnesota, where she witnessed firsthand how the community responded to ICE raids in the area. Natalie spoke to the power of a vision project built on the voices of Michigan residents and how that foundation can transform the systems we build and live within. Robert Wittenberg expanded on these ideas by drawing from his own experiences as a former state Representative in Lansing, emphasizing the importance of collaborative governance.

After hearing from our speakers, guests paired up to answer two guiding questions: What do your neighbors need from their elected officials, and what can Democrats do to meet the moment? The responses were deeply rooted in lived experience addressing healthcare concerns, infrastructure, local water issues, and an overwhelming need to feel heard and see promises turned into action from their elected officials. At a time when corporate and utility influence too often drowns out the needs of everyday people, now more than ever our communities need leadership that truly listens.
