I paint using very thin layers of oil paint, almost like a watercolor. As I build up the layers I often shift the composition and incorporate a different drawing. Sometimes I work directly from my daily drawing and use imagined color based in memory.

My oldest, the teen. Each of these three paintings started with a totally different composition and as I work the surface figures begin to emerge and earlier drawings almost appear. I love this pose and how he is so absorbed in his iPad- this composition has been painted, drawn and etched.

My middle kid, in the middle. One of the most abstract pieces in the show, it really helps to have the drawing around the corner to see how the composition evolved. This kid has been a major inspiration for me the past few years, probably because she is always in a crazy pose naturally.
