Parenting Practice

One of the biggest myths we hear is:
“Independent sleep means leaving my child to cry alone.”
We couldn’t disagree more.
At Parenting Practice, independent sleep isn’t about withdrawing support—it’s about building confidence.
Think about every other developmental milestone your child learns.
When they learned to roll, crawl, walk, or ride a bike, you didn’t expect them to figure it out alone.
You supported them.
You encouraged them.
You stayed close while they practiced.
Sleep is no different.
Our child-led approach helps children develop the skills to fall asleep confidently while feeling safe, supported, and connected to their caregivers.
Because the goal has never been perfection.
The goal is helping children gain a skill they’ll use for the rest of their lives.

If summer sleep feels harder right now, you’re not imagining it.
Many parents assume the late sunsets are the problem.
And while evening light can certainly influence sleep, it’s usually only one piece of the puzzle.
Summer often brings:
☀️ More stimulation
🏕️ Camps and childcare changes
⚽ More activity and outdoor time
✈️ Travel and vacations
⏰ Earlier wake times
🍦 Less predictable schedules
All of those things increase sleep pressure and require your child’s body to work harder.
The result?
You may notice:
• More bedtime resistance
• Increased emotional meltdowns
• Earlier morning wake-ups
• More night wakings
• Difficulty settling at bedtime
The good news is that you don’t need a perfect schedule to keep sleep on track.
Instead, focus on protecting the foundations:
✔️ Consistent wake times
✔️ Predictable bedtime routines
✔️ A sleep-friendly environment
Summer doesn’t require perfection.
Just enough consistency underneath all the fun.
