To the Mark Twain Journal—God Knows Where!
Mark Twain tells the story in his autobiography about a letter he received addressed simply to
Mark Twain
Somewhere
that had “traveled over several European countries; it had met with hospitality and with every possible assistance during its wide journey; it was ringed all over, on both sides, with a chainmail
mesh of postmarks—there were nineteen of them.” Eventually, Twain did receive the letter. Even
one addressed
Mark Twain
God Knows Where
Eventually arrived at the author’s home, having found its way from Australia.
These stories came to mind this last week as the Mark Twain Library in Redding, Connecticut, unexpectedly received several hundred copies of the spring issue of the Mark Twain Journal. At
fault was a new software system that misdirected these issues to Connecticut instead of Texas.
Fortunately, as with Twain’s letters, these issues “met with hospitality” among our Connecticut
Friends. Thanks to Library Director Erin (left) and her colleague Cathy these issues are now
headed where they belong! Look for yours in the mail soon! Thanks Erin and Cathy!
