“Bless the Lord, oh my soul, bless His holy name.”

In 1774 when representatives from the Colonies met to form the Continental Congress and what would become these United States of America; They met in Carpenter’s Hall in Philadelphia.

In that first meeting no one was sure how to form a Continental Congress. It was while in that quandary a Patriotic firebrand named Samuel Adams jumped in with a controversial proposal that stirred up instant debate.

His proposal was simply “Let's Pray.” The debate centered around the question, ‘but how can we pray, we are not even all together in our religions’. The end result of their debate was simple.

These men from such varied backgrounds recognized their need for the hand of Almighty God in their great undertaking. Thus they bowed together in the Name of Jesus Christ to invoke Almighty God’s Divine direction in their undertaking.

Thus it was that the first Continental Congress and these United States of America were born in prayer.
O, that today on this JULY 4 we return in Prayer to Almighty God for forgiveness and His Direction for our nation.
