RAD and Caliber 1 Construction collaborated on a schematic design proposal in response to the City of Carrollton’s Request for Qualifications for the new Carrollton Senior Center. While our team was not ultimately awarded the project, we are proud to share the design vision and concepts developed to create a welcoming and vibrant space for Carrollton’s senior community.
The proposed design features a mid-century modern aesthetic while respecting the surrounding context of neighboring Lake Carroll Park, which RAD previously designed in 2021. Large expanses of glass frame views of Lake Carroll and strengthen the visual connection between the building and its natural surroundings.
The program organizes key community spaces around a grand lobby designed to create informal pockets for lounging, gathering, and social connection. The lobby also serves as a gateway linking the senior center to the existing Green Belt path. Additional program elements include recreation rooms for community activities, dedicated staff offices and lounge areas to support daily operations, a spacious cafeteria, multipurpose, and community room that open to a large covered viewing deck overlooking the lake. An elevated walking path extends from the viewing deck, encouraging exercise while allowing visitors to experience the beauty of the site and Lake Carroll.

Fire Station No. 9 is a community-focused space designed with both functionality and safety in mind. At 14,000 square feet, it replaces an outdated station and enhances firefighter readiness with a state-of-the-art training facility. The design prioritizes operational efficiency while keeping the needs of first responders and the local community at the heart of it. This project highlights RAD’s commitment to creating impactful civic architecture that serves as both a tool for emergency response and a hub for community engagement.

RAD designed the FLEXTC Headquarters in 2023, utilizing modular building techniques to deliver a state-of-the-art office environment. This innovative approach enables extensive customization, allowing spaces to be tailored to FLEXTC’s unique operational needs. The modular design supports flat-shipped delivery, significantly reducing transportation costs and logistical complexity. By streamlining construction processes, this method drastically cuts project timelines while maintaining high quality. The result is a modern, adaptable headquarters that embodies FLEXTC’s forward-thinking vision, offering a scalable, sustainable workspace that inspires productivity and innovation.

After two years of designing, planning, and many great meetings, we can proudly announce our partnership with the Weill Foundation to design the expansion of the Stefanie H. Weill Center for Performing Arts. Our team has been thoughtfully designing a 18,000-square-foot expansion to the existing 44,500-square-foot facility. This expansion includes a spacious new lobby, vibrant bar areas, a rooftop deck, modernized offices, and essential back-of-house support spaces.
Blending old and new, the design introduces a fresh aesthetic to both the façade and interior spaces while thoughtfully preserving the historic Spanish Colonial Revival legacy of the original theater.
Construction is set to begin in September 2025, ushering in an exciting new era for one of Sheboygan’s most cherished venues.
