Mohs surgery aspires to remove skin cancer while minimizing damage to surrounding skin tissue. The surgery utilizes local anesthesia to remove skin cancer through advanced surgical techniques that require specialized training to complete. Throughout the surgery, a physician will sequentially excise small layers of skin to examine them for the presence of skin cancer under the microscope. The skin samples will be removed and examined until the skin cancer has been completely extracted. The procedure boasts a high cure rate. Since it only removes cancerous skin cells and preserves normal skin, the procedure protects skin aesthetics by decreasing resulting scarring. Mohs surgery is regarded as most effective in the treatment of basal cell carcinomas and squamous cell carcinomas, the two most common skin cancer types. The surgery can also be utilized for some melanomas and unusual cancer types.
