I’m in India! Doing a deep dive into my health- a 14-day stint at an Ayurvedic Healing Center called Vaidyagrama in Southern India. How we treat our bodies and minds on the daily is foundational, AND it is extremely valuable to take the time to go deep with a cleanse or specialized healing program. So I am really grateful to be here.

Ayurvedic medicine is ancient and works within a framework of different constitutions or energies within the body called doshas. When these are imbalanced we have symptoms that can lead to deeper diseases if not addressed. The doctors, in addition to taking one’s case, also use the pulse to note the dosha imbalances and track it as healing progresses.

Traditionally, people do what is called Pancha Karma, which is about a 23-day process of deep body cleansing, that involves a specific diet, manual treatments, herbs and using ghee to pull out toxins from the tissues. It can be pretty intense. They also cultivate an environment here where you are to stay out of the sun, no intense exercise, and little stimulation, ie no non-fiction reading, no TV or streaming, a lot of devotional opportunities and down time. I am doing an abbreviated version of this process, but plan on coming back for the full experience in the near future

Just to give you a little taste, this is what my schedule looks like:

6:00 am Khashayam (warm herbal decoction)
6:15 Morning Chanting + Prayers - for healing
7:00 Morning medicine
7-9 Stretch, meditate, journal, read, stare into space
9:00 Medicine and breakfast
9:30 Meet with my Doctor
9:30-11:30 More reading, journaling, socializing, check emails
11:30 Treatment
12:30 Medicine and Lunch
2:15 Yoga Nidra, aka Yoga power nap
4:00 Herbal Tea and possibly second treatment of the day
4:30 Puja, cooking class or Satsang with Doctors
5:00 Khashayam #2 and meet with Doctor
6:00 Medicine and Dinner
7:00 Medicine
8:00 Before bed medicine
9:00 Sleep

It’s pretty full on but I feel very well taken care of here. 🙏 continued in comments
