Season and the holidays bring joy, connection, and full dining rooms… but they also bring an incredible amount of strain behind the scenes.

Longer wait times are not a failure. They are the result of kitchens running at full tilt, servers juggling multiple tables, and small teams carrying enormous responsibility with care and pride.
Restaurants are not just places to eat. They are livelihoods. They are families. They are people working long hours so others can gather, celebrate, and feel taken care of.

A few things that truly matter during this time…

Honesty about party size is essential. Tables, staffing, and pacing are all planned around what is communicated. When that changes unexpectedly, it creates a ripple that affects every guest waiting behind you.
Table size is per party for a reason. Extra empty seats may feel harmless, but they directly affect a restaurant’s ability to turn tables and generate the revenue needed to survive slower months. For many, this season is what carries them through the off season.
Outside food and beverages are not allowed, and this is never personal. Health codes and liability laws are strict. One exception can mean fines or worse, and no meal is worth risking a business that employs and supports real people.
Patience is not just kindness, it is powerful. Many staff members are working doubles, covering shifts, and showing up tired but committed. A little understanding can completely change the energy of a room.
This is not about blame. It is about remembering that dining out is a shared experience built on mutual respect. When guests and restaurants extend grace to one another, everyone wins.
