The US Department of Energy at the Savannah River Site (SRS) in Aiken, South Carolina, recently acquired a new state-of-the-art electrofishing boat from Smith-Root to bolster sampling efforts as part of work to survey the effects of its operations on people and natural resources surrounding the site.

Nimbus fish hatchery on the American River in northern California has a Smith-Root EA-1000B at the heart of their operation to immobilize salmon for safe handling.

Following the opening of the Nimbus Hatchery fish ladder last week, hard-working CDFW staff began spawning fall-run Chinook salmon on Monday, November 10. On that day, 146 salmon were spawned and approximately 423,360 eggs were collected and fertilized. These eggs will begin hatching in late December and the fish produced will be released as smolts this coming spring. Spawning of fall-run Chinook salmon at the hatchery will continue till the middle of December followed by the spawning of steelhead trout, which will begin in late December and will continue into February.
