Congratulations to the Valley Stream South High School Class of 2026, who celebrated their commencement yesterday! Congratulations to South's Aidan Ashby, who has been selected to perform with the All-County Jazz Band next year. This is an exceptional honor, as Aidan is one of only five trumpet players and just 18 students county-wide to earn a seat in this prestigious ensemble.

Aidan's selection is the result of a rigorous evaluation process. He achieved a perfect score of 100 on a Level 6 All-State Jazz Solo at the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) festival, followed by a highly competitive live audition last week.

What makes this achievement truly remarkable is Aidan's rapid trajectory—he only began his jazz studies 18 months ago. When he initially set these highly ambitious goals, we discussed the immense dedication required to achieve them. Through his relentless work ethic, focus, and drive, he has completely realized his vision.
