Opinion | Michael Bloomberg: How Biden and Congress Should Fix the Immigration Crisis in Our Cities 09/13/2023

From the article:

Practical. If the U.S. government lets you in, it should let you work. It’s the American way, and it’s what generations of immigrants have done. President Biden should use his executive authority to permit many more people to work, and he should work with Congress to ensure that all others can, too.

My take - eliminate illegal as a status. Undocumented doesn't work. Let people live, work and travel freely. Fine $$$ someone who comes into United States and move on.

Law offenders get incarcerated, deported, etc however people who want to work, support their families all while paying taxes should be allowed to do so in peace.

By creating impossible pathway to legal residence in the United States all it does is create shadow people that employers take advantage of.

The current system does not benefit anyone who cares about rule of law or a more American America.

The refugee issue breeds anger in a whole lot of people who have spent a generation or more in the United States and are still unable to be legally documented while those seeking asylum are let in legally.

Right place right time...

Meanwhile you have people with children and extended family living with the threat of deportation, lack of basic paperwork and legal solutions and landlocked in the United States as any international travel would not allow them to return.

I have seen it first hand. I understand the political arguments but it is always Xenophobia and fear of nonsensical outcomes that prevents Congress from solving these issues.

Set the fine and set it high. Monitor the rates the coyotes are receiving. But let people move on with their lives.
