Public Announcement

The Vacaville Fire Protection District is proud to recognize one of our own.

On Tuesday evening, volunteer firefighter Vincent Hayes was awarded the Certificate of Extraordinary Personal Action by the Solano/Napa Chapter of the American Red Cross. The award was presented during the chapter’s monthly meeting in Fairfield, which also happened to be Vincent’s 20th birthday, making the moment even more special. He was joined at the event by his girlfriend and family, who were there to celebrate this important achievement.

Vincent was nominated earlier this year for his remarkable life-saving actions last August while he was on vacation at Disneyland with his girlfriend. When a visitor suddenly collapsed and became unconscious, Vincent immediately stepped in. After confirming the subject had no pulse, he requested an AED and began assisting other bystanders with CPR. Once the AED arrived, Vincent cut open the subject’s shirt, applied the pads, and followed the prompts. The AED advised no shock, and Vincent, along with the team of bystanders, continued CPR until Fire and EMS arrived. By the time EMS transported the patient to the hospital, the subject had regained a pulse, constituting a true field save.

Vincent’s quick thinking, composure, and selfless actions exemplify the highest values of service and compassion. His efforts serve as a powerful reminder that CPR saves lives, and we encourage everyone in our community to receive proper training.

Please join us in congratulating Vincent on this well-deserved honor.

🍂 History has shown us that some of California’s largest and most destructive wildfires have ignited during the fall months. This chart shows the largest fall wildfires our Unit has seen, going back through 1950.

The shift in seasons can bring cooler mornings and shorter days, but it doesn’t mean the wildfire threat is over. Dry conditions along with strong winds and low humidity can create dangerous fire weather.

This is the time to stay prepared, not let your guard down. Pack a go-bag, review your evacuation plan with your family and avoid all activities that create a spark during . Preparing NOW can make a big difference when wildfires spark near you.
