Who else remembers going to the drive-in?! ❤️🍿

When Fairfield Went to the Movies Under the Stars 📽️🍿

This photo captures a true piece of Fairfield history: the old Solano Drive-In, once located on North Texas Street near Dickson Hill Road. Opened on July 14, 1950, the Solano Drive-In became one of those classic postwar landmarks that defined an era — a place where families, teenagers, Travis Air Force Base personnel, and local residents could pull in, park, and watch a double feature beneath the Solano County sky.

The marquee in this photo helps date the scene to the late 1950s. The sign advertises Rock Hudson in *Something of Value* and, just below it, Jack Palance in *House of Numbers*. Both films were released in 1957, making this image a beautiful snapshot of Fairfield during the golden age of the American drive-in.

Back then, going to the movies was more than just watching a film. It was the whole experience. Cars lined up on gravel rows. Kids played before the show started. Parents stopped at the snack shack for popcorn, candy, hot dogs, and sodas. The speaker hung from the car window, the screen lit up after sunset, and the hills around Fairfield became part of the backdrop.

The Solano Drive-In had a large outdoor screen, a concession stand, and even a children’s playground — the kind of family-friendly setup that made drive-ins such a big part of American life in the 1950s and 1960s. It was a place for first dates, family nights, summer memories, and Saturday evenings when North Texas Street still had more open land and country atmosphere than shopping centers and traffic.

In later years, the theater was renamed Chief Auto Movies in 1975, continuing Fairfield’s drive-in tradition for another generation. But like so many drive-ins across the country, time eventually caught up with it. The theater closed in December 1988 after a windstorm brought down the screen. The site was later demolished and redeveloped into the shopping center area many Fairfield residents know today.

Looking at this photo now, it is hard not to feel nostalgic. The old Solano Drive-In sign stands proudly against the rolling hills, reminding us of a simpler Fairfield — when a night out meant loading the family into the car, heading down North Texas Street, and watching Hollywood magic from the front seat.

For many longtime residents, the Solano Drive-In was not just a movie theater. It was part of growing up in Fairfield.

Some people make a living. Others make a lasting difference.

I’m incredibly proud of my brother and the work he’s done for decades as a special education teacher and baseball coach. Special education is one of the most challenging and demanding professions, and the turnover rate reflects that. But James has always gone far beyond simply doing his job.

He created a club where students of all abilities - kids whose paths might never naturally cross - can build friendships, learn from one another, and develop empathy that will stay with them long after graduation.

Kudos to Aaron and his family for sharing their special story. I wish them well. ❤️

So proud of you, Jimmy. ❤️

It’s time for a little spring cleaning with a purpose! 🐾

My friend is hosting a fundraiser to benefit local rescue dogs, and all you have to do is clean out those closets, garages, and spare rooms. Donate your gently used clothing, household items, books, and more, and your unwanted treasures can help support a great cause.

Check out the flyer for drop-off details and accepted items.

And hey… if this inspires you to finally declutter the whole house, give me a call. Once it’s clean, organized, and looking fabulous, we can talk about getting it sold too! 😉🏡

Thank you for supporting our local rescue community and helping some deserving pups find the care they need. ❤️🐶
