I am officially announcing that I have quit professional photography. It wasn't really a hard choice at the end, but it's been brewing for some time now.
At some point I'll pick up a camera again and enjoy photographing the world around me. But, for now I'm sticking to my phone and photographing things like my kids on a mountain top, selfies with folks I adore the most, or random s**t I find myself around... like any other social media user.
THANK YOU to everyone who has supported me over the past twelve years in all the ways humans support other humans. You've all been inspiring and kind and just beautiful. I love that so much.
From the highly saturated, poorly composed, free photo sessions of my first year, to the holiday minis with and without Santa, to the Not Back to School sessions for my homeschool community, to raising money for the food pantry during the start of the pandemic through the Front Steps Project to the countless seniors and families and weddings and babies I've photographed through the years. So much love for you all.
There's a bazillion photographers out there. You'll all find one you love to support.

Here are some more from this senior's session. This place was a dream.

This is Six.
What's better than an epic battle with an alligator in your living room where sometimes you win and sometimes the 'gator wins? Also, sometimes six-year-olds mock you and pretend to take photos of you taking photos of them.

Happy Spring!

I know it's been super quiet here. In December I closed my studio. Then I decided that I really wasn't feeling being a portrait photographer any more. I found myself saying no to inquiries, which meant that it was time for me to take a hiatus. I LOVE photography, but right now I want to be really present and available for my teens and truly focus on the art of photography. I will be honoring commitments I have made for upcoming weddings and gift certificates won or given, of course. I still will be photographing for those things I really want to photograph - organizations I adore, families I love wholly, and of course, for my fellow homeschool folks in the fall. Otherwise, I will be shooting a lot of 35mm and 120mm film. I love slowing down and testing out cameras to see if they work. I love being super intentional with my photographs because I only get 12, 24, or 36 chances to get them right. I'm also planning out a photography class for kids next year and I'm a little excited about that. Back in 2020, before the world went wonky, I was slated to teach film photography to my students and we never got to do that. I'm back teaching (film studies this year) and next fall is going to be super fun.

I struggled with running a business and being an artist who is super philanthropic. I'm definitely not business savvy. I totally just want to do my thing, be creative, and hope some folks can see the beauty that I see...especially if they didn't before.

As always, thanks for supporting me and my art. Thanks for hanging out and paying attention. I value all of you, truly.

Still hang around. I'll still be posting. For now, it'll be grainy black and whites created with vintage cameras on 35mm film.

With love,
erica
