Less than 1% of all streams in Texas can still be called truly pristine — but they’re at risk from pollution caused by the discharge of treated wastewater. That’s why a broad coalition of landowners, community groups, and conservationists has filed the Pristine Streams Petition with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). The petition asks our state’s environmental agency to stop issuing new wastewater discharge permits on these streams. Some of the most beautiful and beloved streams in the state would be protected by the prohibition, including the Blanco, Devils, Frio, Guadalupe, and Llano Rivers, as well as Barton, Cypress, and Hondo Creeks. Please make your voice be heard!
