The Naming Project

The Naming Project is not the only camp for LGBTQ youth, and we are so thankful for the network of camps and youth supportive programs. Our niche is faith and LGBTQ, while camps like the one featured in this article is specifically for trans youth.

All our camp programs are at risk. By vigilantes, bad actors, and a government intent on intruding into the lives of LGBTQ youth, their families, and their support network.

In the Middle of the Bible Belt, a Summer Camp Lets Trans Kids Exhale Transcending Adolescence gives trans youth a place where their gender identity is understood, difficult questions are welcomed and adulthood feels possible.

This summer, LGBTQIA+ youth will step into a camp community designed for care, connection, faith, and joy. This year’s theme, “Brilliantly Resilient,” celebrates the sacred strength that shines through our campers.

At camp, youth have the opportunity to build age-appropriate peer friendships through shared meals, camp activities, group conversations, games, crafts, swimming, campfires, and moments of reflection. For many campers, this is one of the rare places where they do not have to explain every part of themselves before being welcomed.
