Today we celebrate an extraordinary leader and an extraordinary man—Herb Buie—on his 96th birthday.

Herb is more than a founder of the Tyler Economic Development Council. He helped build the foundation for the organization that has worked for decades to strengthen our economy, create jobs, and improve the quality of life for generations of East Texans. As a past Chairman of the Board, his vision, integrity, and commitment continue to shape our mission today.

Last year, TEDC proudly established the Herb Buie Visionary Award to recognize exceptional leadership in economic development, and it was only fitting that Herb became its very first recipient. His leadership has set the standard for all who follow.

What makes Herb even more remarkable is that at 96 years old, he remains an active and engaged leader. He still asks thoughtful questions, offers wise counsel, and challenges us to think bigger about Tyler’s future. His passion for this community has never wavered.

Happy 96th Birthday, Herb! Thank you for your vision, your leadership, your friendship, and your unwavering belief in what Tyler can become. We are all standing on the foundation you helped build.
