A great weekend on the track for the crew at the Lonestar Showcase in Southlake 🔥

Several athletes took advantage of some leftover fitness from track season before shifting gears into summer base-building for cross country.

Cooper McGraner
3200m: 9:28.77 (6th OA, 5-second PR)💥
1600m: 4:27.92 (26th OA)
Cooper raced aggressively to see what he could do and came away with a huge breakthrough in the 3200.

Maverick Murray
800m: 2:06.46 (PR, 6th in heat)💥
Controlled, even splits and a smart race ex*****on.

Marcos Rivera
1 Mile: 4:38 (5-second PR, 6th in heat)💥
Another big PR

Oscar Padilla
1 Mile: 5:20.18 (6th in heat)

Micah Hayman
1 Mile: 5:35.56

Now it’s time to transition into the summer miles, aerobic development, and the work that sets up a strong fall season💪

Huge congratulations to Sakiko Okumoto on winning the Masters division at the Badass Texas Half Marathon in Waco with a huge performance of 1:52:21 🥇

What makes this even more impressive? She ran over 7 minutes faster than she did at this same race last year! 💥

And if you know this course, you know that’s no joke. The Badass Texas Half is known for its challenging hills through Cameron Park, steep climbs over 5% grade, rolling terrain, heat, and humidity that punish runners who go out too hard early.

Sakiko raced smart, though- she said was in control the entire way and steadily picked off runners who faded after going out too fast🔥

That’s how you run a tough half marathon: patience early and strength late.

Rae Lynn came in for blood lactate testing as she builds toward the Chicago Marathon with a goal of 3:28, which would give her a 7 minute buffer to qualify for Boston (her ultimate goal).

One major takeaway from her testing- she has a very strong aerobic profile and excellent lactate clearance early in the test which are great signs for marathon performance.

One thing the testing also revealed: her easy runs have probably been a little too hard, sitting closer to threshold than ideal. While that can feel productive in the short term, it often makes it harder to fully recover and maximize aerobic adaptations.

This is where lactate testing becomes so valuable. We were able to dial in her training zones more precisely so every run has a purpose. Easy runs can become truly easy, tempo runs more controlled, and threshold work more effective. Training can become more targeted with less guesswork and better recovery between sessions

Marathon athletes need a lot of training just below LT1 to build durability, improve efficiency, and stay fresh enough to absorb harder workouts.

The next step is building consistent mileage in the 40-50 mile range with more work below LT1 to continue improving endurance, durability, and marathon efficiency heading into Chicago.

Small adjustments like this can make a huge difference over a marathon build. Excited to see where this leads. 🔥
