🌿 November is National Hospice and Palliative Care Month 🌿

It’s an honor to be part of Hospice of East Texas, where compassionate care and dignity guide everything we do. Serving patients and families at HomePlace is a true privilege — witnessing the love, courage, and peace that fill those moments reminds us why this work matters so deeply. 💜

This month, we celebrate the dedicated teams and families who make hospice and palliative care such a gift — ensuring every life is lived with comfort, respect, and grace.

We were honored to get to celebrate 25 years of HomePlace yesterday.

Avocados make our hearts happy!! 💚🥑💚

A recently published study has shown that consumption of one avocado a day not only improved diet quality and sleep health, but also reduced LDL “bad cholesterol“ and raised HDL “good cholesterol.“ This helps lower your risk of heart disease.

They are also a great source of fiber, potassium, magnesium, folate, vitamin K.

Fun ways to incorporate an avocado in your daily diet: avocado toast, top your omelet, spread on your sandwich, add to your salad, make guacamole, add to your smoothie, top your taco.

My small local farmers (who use organic means) are typically my healthiest patients!

Why?

They follow my five tenets of excellent health, which I call Pacha’s Pyramid.
The Pyramid of Wellness includes the following:
 1. Eat Real Food
Stick to simple, one-ingredient, nutrient-rich organic foods. Farmers consume very little fast food or processed foods, and I believe our health or disease level is directly tied to how much of these foods we eat.
 2. Fresh Air and Sunshine
Farmers benefit from being outdoors daily, soaking up fresh air and natural sunlight. This is essential for hormonal, mental, and overall well-being.
 3. High-Quality Movement
Their work demands natural, functional movements like walking, lifting, squatting, and more. The farm itself becomes a natural gym.
 4. Minimal Screen Time and High-Quality Sleep
With early mornings and long days, farmers don’t have time to scroll through Netflix or TikTok. Their routines ensure they get that crucial sleep window between 10 PM and 4 AM.
 5. Community and Connection
Farming relies on community support, fostering deep connections that are often missing in modern life. Strong relationships are essential for good mental health and longevity.
 6. Purpose and Gratitude
Farming brings challenges like droughts and natural disasters, making farmers deeply connected to a higher purpose. Many are faith-centered, cultivating gratitude for the natural elements that sustain them.

Supporting local farmers is not just about food—it’s about embracing a lifestyle. We can all benefit by striving to live like them! 06/08/2025

Growing up on a farm in West Texas, Dr. Amby can attest to this!
