To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, we will be highlighting an influential Hispanic figure every week. For our fourth feature, we highlight Pedro Zamora. (Check our page to see our previous features!)
When Pedro Zamora began his journey as an actor on MTV's The Real World San Francisco in 1994, he had already been an active HIV/AIDS advocate and educator. At the age of 17, Pedro learned that he was a young man living with HIV and dedicated his life to raising awareness and educating his peers. He was one of the first openly gay men of color living with HIV/AIDS to be on a television series. His tragic death at the age of 22 created support for HIV/AIDS and LGBTQ advocacy.
Zamora's legacy as a world renowned HIV/AIDS educator and activist has inspired many to confront their fears, ignorance, and misconceptions about HIV/AIDS and the Le***an, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender community.
