You probably see this picture a lot on our feed.
This is Dr. Cassidy releasing the psoas....one of the most important muscles in pregnancy and one of the most overlooked!
The psoas is a deep core muscle that connects the low back, pelvis, and legs. As your belly grows and your center of gravity shifts forward, the psoas often becomes tight and overworked. When that happens, it can contribute to low back pain, hip pain, pelvic discomfort, sciatic-type symptoms, and that constant feeling of being “tight” through the front of your hips.
But its role in pregnancy goes beyond comfort.
The psoas sits directly alongside the uterus. When it’s carrying excessive tension, it can influence the balance and mobility of the pelvis and surrounding ligaments. A balanced, mobile pelvis creates more room for baby to move and settle into an optimal position, while excessive tension can contribute to asymmetries that may make positioning more challenging.
That’s why we spend so much time evaluating and addressing the psoas in our pregnant patients. Our goal isn’t just to help you feel better (which is always a plus!) it’s to also help create the best environment possible for your body and your baby as you prepare for birth.
A comfortable mom. A balanced pelvis. More room for baby.
That’s why you'll keep seeing this picture for ever and ever.
