Carl has been practicing hot yoga for twenty-five years, and at 81, he credits his practice with helping him stay active and engaged in the life he loves. Golf several days a week. Pickleball. Walking his dogs. Moving with strength, flexibility, and stamina.
For Carl, hot yoga supports not just his body, but his mental clarity and focus. While he enjoys other classes, this practice continues to give him the greatest benefit. Over the years, he has practiced at many studios, and what stands out to him here is the quality of the teachers. Each instructor brings their own style, yet every class feels thoughtful, consistent, and grounded in care.

The splits aren't just a party trick.
Working toward the splits can improve flexibility in the hamstrings, hip flexors, glutes, and inner thighs while building body awareness, patience, and control. The goal isn't necessarily to get all the way to the floor—it's to create more freedom and ease in your movement.
And here's the best part: there are progressions for every body.
✨ Use blocks under your hands for support.
✨ Place a bolster or blanket under your hips.
✨ Work from a low lunge to open the hip flexors.
✨ Practice half splits to build hamstring flexibility.
✨ Focus on steady, consistent effort rather than forcing depth.
The splits aren't an all-or-nothing pose. Every step along the way is progress.
