Love seeing all the babies. More angus and black baldy and our first highland and she is a heifer. Interesting how all the longhorn babies have mama babysitters and the angus and black baldy babies wander off far away from mama until time to eat. Lots of frolicking going on in the pastures.

The ranch is looking a little different these days. After much research and debate, we’ve purchased our first cows and bull to begin building a commercial herd of Red Angus-Fleckvieh cattle. We acquired them from Chad Ledbetter of Okmulgee, OK—a highly respected, third-generation cattleman whose program we deeply admire. We’re excited about what he has produced and hopeful for success in this new venture.

It’s been 39 years since we’ve run a commercial herd, having focused instead on raising a large herd of registered Longhorns. While this marks a big change, we are energized by this new transformation. Rebel HR will still keep a few Longhorn ladies for breeding, and our new Black Angus bull, Maverick, will be pairing with some of them.

There’s a renewed sense of excitement around the ranch, and we’re enjoying the process of building new memories together.

Got our steer HR Muddy Water in the Joe Chute for the first time yesterday. He wasn't sure about going in the chute but the guys coaxed him in and he did great. 123.4375" TTT👍

We are sad to report that LLL Rosemary, one of our primary foundation cows, passed away on 12-21-24. She was born 9-25-2004 and was the perfect blend of line breeding that included double-bred Senator, double-bred Zhivago, and double-bred Pl***oy. She incorporated the best of Darol Dickenson and Owen McGill's genetics. She was a paternal half-sister to WS Jamakizm, who also had an iconic career that influenced many elite Longhorn programs in his day.

LLL Rosemary wasn't just another cow in the pasture, but a genetic powerhouse whose outstanding production graced not only our pastures, but those of many other programs. Her descendants are easy keepers with wonderful colors, several with over 100" TTT horns, and all with outstanding milking abilities.

When your genetics are so powerful that you have a noticeable impact on the Longhorn industry, you become a Legend, passing the same elite status on to your daughter (HR Slam's Rose), and grandson (Rebel HR), along with many others. In linebreeding LLL Rosemary we created HR Rosette, perhaps her most famous lineage.

LLL Rosemary has been a well-loved constant in our longhorn program. When we sold the herd last year, we kept her and a few other elderly ladies. We will miss her greatly.
