“Parenting isn’t for the faint of heart. Grace called this evening, right at dusk, to tell me that she was stranded on the side of the Turner Turnpike west of Chandler (over an hour from our home). To make matters worse, her phone was nearly dead. Jennifer was able to get in touch with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, who said they would send a trooper her way as soon as they could.
Every fear a parent has concerning their child played over and over in my mind as I tried to get to where she was. I cannot express the relief that I felt when her car came into view with those beautiful red and blue lights flashing behind her! By the time I got turned around, Trooper Zach Hargus 331 was nearly finished changing her tire. He didn’t have to stop. He didn’t have to protect her when I couldn’t. He certainly didn’t have to change her tire.
As an Oklahoman, I’m forever greatful to live in a state where we look out for each other and know that we can count on people like Trooper Hargus to do things that they don’t have to do”.
