Watching the actions taking place throughout Tulsa since Thursday is why we end most posts with love, rage, and solidarity. The love we have for our friends we spend time with on Wednesdays knows no bounds and our concern for them is always on our minds and in our hearts.
The rage we feel as we watch our neighbors’ belongings be thrown into dumpsters with no regard, while watching Malachai’s sorrow of over his companion senselessly killed and knowing yet more trauma is being added to already fragile lives burns in our bodies every day.
The solidarity we have with Tulsans facing enormous hurdles to live each day while the ruling class and their supporters celebrate profits over people will never cease.
But in the end we know that none of this started on Thursday. This has been the reality in Tulsa just as it has been the reality in the United States from the beginning. It’s the reality when private equity has been allowed to buy up thousands of properties in our city with no rent or eviction regulation, when aesthetic performances are prioritized over root cause solutions, when ordinances are passed fining people $150 for standing, sitting or laying less than 18 inches from the street, when groups who share food and resources with the homeless are targeted by the very city government that claims to be designing common-sense solutions.
And just like we know this didn’t just start with a plan from a governor, we know that this is not as simple as a state vs. city issue. It’s not even a Stitt vs. Nichols issue. It is CERTAINLY not a democrats vs. republicans issue, as we’ve seen both parties enforce dehumanizing policies. This is a ruling class vs. working class issue. Let this radicalize you; the cruelty is the point. The fight will not end until all people have shelter and food and safety before another dollar is spent on the machines of war.
In love, rage, and solidarity,
🖤 Tulsa FNB 🖤
