It’s cold, the wind is blowing at an ungodly speed, you are walking down a busy street. You are wearing sneakers, jeans and a jacket that may have seen better days. You aren't really going anywhere because maybe you have nowhere to go, or aren't sure where you would even be welcome. You yourself have seen better days. Your face is sore from the cold wind and despite the chapped skin on your hands you try to cram them into your jean pockets. And then, as if they read your mind, someone hands you a thick warm pair of gloves. For free! Expecting nothing in return! You slide them on, and for a second you remember that people are good and there is always hope.
This is the reason for Mittens For Detroit. This is the feeling we, you and everyone who donates is creating. A chain reaction of hope. Maybe it was the unseasonably warm weather we had early this fall, or maybe my lack of promoting and posting, but we are at a RECORD LOW in our collections this year. Last year was a struggle because I was so busy caring for my Dad, this year just seems like we’ve all forgotten…
Be the reason someone is thankful. To all who have already donated. a gracious thank you! To those who have not, please consider dropping a pair or two in my box. Warm hands are much more beautiful than ANY I could manicure or create in my salon!!!!!

GUESS WHAT?!?!
This is my 11th season working for Mittens for Detroit as a mitten hustler! I’ve been so blessed to have been able to not only have a wonderful job that allows me to meet and create with so many amazing people, but I have ALSO been SO blessed to be able to call upon all of you along with my family and friends and suite mates to help me raise an enormous amount of mittens and gloves to keep the hands of those less fortunate warm and healthy! It’s not enough to make beautiful hands, we must take care of them, for ourselves and each other. Working with MFD has also blessed ME, in bringing such amazing people in my life like Wendy Shepherd the lady who makes it all happen! Thank you Wendy for everything you do and for believing people deserve to be warm and cared for! Your mitten spirit is SO BIG and so very admirable!

I say all this as we kick off a new season and I ask once again for all of you to open your hearts and help us make this the best season yet!
Collection has begun and we will be accepting NEW UNUSED mittens and gloves of all sizes until January! Drop box as always is located in front of my salon suite!
