Uncle Sam's CX, NY State Champs — Single-Speed
Small field, and for most of us it was the second race of the day. Fun course on a single-speed. Happy that I managed to grind up the hill every lap.

Hollenbeck's Spring Classic Road Race

First time pinning on the snazzy new Mello Velo Bicycle Shop kit for a road race. This is always a great race. Super happy to have made the 1-lap split and held on for 5th overall and 1st in my age-group. Stupidly misjudged the length of my cool down and missed the awards—sorry guys. -Kevan (Thanks to John Lynch for the photos)

NatiFo! 1st overall and Masters 35+ State Champ.

Put this one on your calendar for next year. John Compton (Main Street Bike Shop) knows how to do it: awesome location, super fun course, post-race keg and chicken dinner (best post-race idea EVER, and fundraiser for the Burdett Vol. Fire Dept.), and great people!

The course had a bit of everything. A long, hard hill was the first real test and blew apart the race. A lead group settled out and was going pretty well, but not enough to stay ahead of a few chasers. Subsequent rollers, a missed turn, and another steep hill fragmented the group even further; so the race at the front came down to three: Kevan, Cory Kuhns and Ken Hall. We worked decently well as a trio through some rough roads, a sketchy single-track section, and then were facing the final drag up to the line. I upped the pace at about the .5 mile mark to see how everyone was doing, and then Ken (presumably trying to avoid a final sprint) ramped it up even further. That was enough that we lost Cory. I tracked Ken’s wheel until I could see the finish line and though he was flagging and then pulled through and got a few seconds gap for the win.

Better photos coming when I scoop them up from the great photographers that were on sight.

-Kevan
