With Spring around the corner we wanted to remind you that we are open to the public!

With Spring just around the corner do you know the Do’s and Don’ts of Mulch?

Do use organic mulch. All of our mulch at Midwest Mulch and compost is organic and free of treated wood, pallets, railroad ties, etc.

Do apply yearly. We are open all year long at Midwest Mulch and Compost!

Do use the right mulch for the job. We have mulch for your flower beds and compost for your gardens.

Do use a thick layer of mulch 2-3 inches thick. You can use our mulch calculator to calculate how much mulch you will need for the job

Don’t apply to much mulch to the base of trees. Mulch that is too close to the trunk can suffocate its roots, and moisture can build up encouraging diseases that decay wood.

Don’t apply to thin a layer of mulch. If you use to thin a layer, light can still reach w**d seeds and it won’t be an effective insulator against heat, cold and rain.

Don’t use synthetic mulch such as plastic sheets or cloth. They do not feed soil organisms and may keep the soil too moist.
