Knowing how to properly troubleshoot is one of the most important skills to have in this field. Many of the issues I help my clients with are what I would call "simple, but not always easy" issues. That is, the solution may be to simply restart the components that are not functioning properly (first thing to try in most situations), or it may require uninstalling a device or software and then re-installing them, or it could be that the devices are on different wifi bands and cannot communicate with each other.

In Phyllis's case, it was all of the above. She had two laptops that had stopped connecting to the printer and, after attempting to resolve the issue herself, called me to come by and take a look.

Long story short, we reset the printer and the router, uninstalled all versions of the printer's software on both computers, reinstalled the printer software, updated the printer's "driver" and made sure that the wireless connection to the printer was on the older, 2.4Ghz band and not the newer, 5Ghz band (more recent printers recognize the 5Ghz band).

Once we got everything set up correctly we tested the two laptops to make sure they printed. Success!
