By All Means!!

Aaron Parks.

The wind is howling outside, rattling anything that isn’t nailed down, making it the perfect night to rip the shrink wrap off this new album from pianist Aaron Parks.

That striking cover art, reminiscent of the old Blue Note style, was just begging to be treated in black and white, even if the record itself is a muted pink/red color.

The music contained in its grooves… well, that’s the cherry on top… it’s classic jazz quartet: Brubeck & Desmond, Getz & Evans. In other words, magical.

If it hadn’t been for a friend on Instagram posting about this album, I would have gone on without ever knowing it, and life would be a little less… enjoyable.

Basie in London.

Count Basie & His Orchestra.

It’s snowy here today and it’s the perfect weather for some hot, big band jazz.

I’ve been wanting a copy of this for a long time and finally found a nearly perfect copy on eBay recently.

Plus, it sounds incredible on these new KLH Model 3s. Basie’s juggernaut of a rhythm section really thumps with these beauties.

Brahms: Symphony No. 3, Op. 90 & Variations on a Theme by Haydn, Op. 56a.

George Szell & The Cleveland Symphony Orchestra.

This time of year feels like a time warp to being with, but couple that with a nasty head cold (that is still lingering despite my best efforts to eradicate it), the days just seem to… blend. With that said, I am glad to be feeling… human enough to enjoy my records again.

This album in particular is a personal favorite and an absolute powerhouse of classical/romantic music composed by Brahms and Haydn. Naturally, the Cleveland Orchestra and their steadfast conductor, the legendary George Szell, bring these compositions to new heights.

Recorded in October 1964, this music and these recordings still sound incredible and to my ears are the definitive versions of these compositions.

I hope you all are enjoying your holidays and are looking forward to a new year filled with incredible music.

Also… this is the first classical album I’ve played with the new KLH Audio Model Three speakers and damn… it feels like you’re there in the hall during the recording.
