When Perseverance Becomes Your Lifeline

In 2012, I ran my second marathon in Des Moines, Iowa, a city that was home for almost a decade. Little did I know that I was running with stage 3 ovarian cancer. What followed was a year-long battle filled with prayers, hope, and sheer determination. In 2014, I emerged cancer-free, a testament to the power of perseverance.

Fast forward to a day on the Via Ferrata in Ouray, Colorado. There I was, clinging to the rocks, frozen in fear, feeling utterly stuck. But with the calming guidance of my guide and a deep desire to finish, I unfroze, took that next step, and kept moving forward.

When life gets tough, and you feel stuck—whether it’s in a rut or on the edge of a finish line—remember this: perseverance isn’t just about powering through; it’s about taking one step at a time, even when you’re scared. It’s about trusting that you have what it takes to finish strong.

So today, if you feel like you’re not moving forward, dig deep. One step at a time, and you’ll get there. Don’t give up.
