๐Ÿ”ฅ NEW TOWN OF HANOVER OPEN BURNING ORDINANCE ๐Ÿ”ฅ

The Town of Hanover has adopted a new Open Burning Ordinance (No. 2026-5) to help keep our community safe while protecting our environment.

If youโ€™re planning to have a fire, please take a few minutes to review the ordinance before lighting it.

Key reminders:
โœ… Recreational fires are allowed when they meet the ordinance requirements.
โœ… Fires must be attended at all times and kept within the approved size limits.
โœ… Only clean, natural materials may be burned.
โŒ Burning household trash, treated lumber, tires, plastics, furniture, and other prohibited materials is not allowed.
๐Ÿ“ž Specialty burns and fires exceeding the allowable recreational size require notification to Jefferson County Central Dispatch before ignition.

Violations of the ordinance may result in civil penalties, cost recovery for emergency responses, and other enforcement action.

Please review the attached ordinance summary for complete details. By following these guidelines, we can all help reduce fire hazards, protect our neighbors, and keep Hanover safe.

If you have questions regarding the ordinance or permit requirements, please contact Hanover Town Hall at (812) 866-2131.

Thank you for doing your part to keep our community safe! ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ”ฅ
