This July and beyond, the Tracy Police Department encourages drivers to follow the speed limit and “slow the fast down.”

Speeding remains a leading factor in deadly crashes and is consistently the top safety concern among surveyed California drivers, according to the 2025 California Traffic Safety Survey. Even small increases in speed reduce the time drivers have to react and significantly increases the force of a crash. Slowing down is a simple, effective way to prevent tragedies on our roads.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 11,288 people died from speeding-related crashes in the U.S. in 2024, accounting for 29% of all traffic fatalities that year. In California alone, 1,139 people were killed in speeding-related crashes in 2024.

Speeding is dangerous and puts everyone at risk. Every driver’s decision to follow the speed limit helps protect everyone in the community. Risky driving behaviors, including speeding, continue to contribute to preventable tragedies on California roadways.

Drivers can take simple steps to prevent speeding:
🚘 Plan ahead and allow extra travel time.
🚘 Follow posted speed limits, especially in school and work zones.
🚘 Drive at a speed that is safe for the conditions around you. Adjust your speed for changing weather, traffic and road conditions.
🚘 Avoid aggressive driving behaviors like tailgating or weaving through traffic.

Crashes have severe and lasting consequences, and slowing down is one of the most important actions you can take to keep everyone using roads safe. By taking precautions and driving at safe speeds, we can make sure everyone in the community reaches their destination safely.

🐾🎆 Fireworks may be exciting for us, but they can be overwhelming and frightening for our furry family members.

As you get ready to celebrate this Fourth of July, take a few simple steps to help keep your pets safe, secure, and comfortable.

Here are a few helpful reminders:
🐾 Plan ahead by exercising and walking your pets well before the festivities begin, then keep them safely indoors.
🐾 Keep them secure by checking fences, gates, doors, and other possible escape routes.
🐾 Update their ID by making sure collars, tags, and microchip contact information are current.
🐾 Reduce outside noise by running a fan, white noise machine, TV, or radio to help mask the sound of fireworks.
🐾 Stay with them if possible. Your presence can help keep anxious pets calm throughout the evening.

If you witness the use of illegal fireworks, please report it by calling the Tracy Police Department's non-emergency line at (209) 831-6550. Remember, violations may result in fines starting at $1,000. Together, we can help keep our neighborhoods safe, protect our pets, and ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable Fourth of July. 🎇

While we're all excited to celebrate the upcoming Fourth of July holiday, we want to remind everyone that the discharge of ANY fireworks that are not Safe & Sane Fireworks within Tracy city limits is illegal. Additionally, all fireworks are illegal in the unincorporated areas surrounding Tracy.

If you witness illegal fireworks activity, report it by calling the Tracy Police Department's non-emergency line at (209) 831-6550. Please be prepared to provide:
🎇 The location of the fireworks activity
🎇 A description of any involved subjects, vehicles, and direction of travel (if applicable)
🎇 Your name and callback number so an officer can follow up if needed

Please DO NOT report illegal activity in progress through social media, and remember, 9-1-1 should ONLY be used for emergencies.
