Three Masterworks of Southwestern Silver - Lots 2500, 2504 & 2584

Squash blossom necklaces rank among the most iconic forms of Southwestern Native American jewelry, their lineage is rooted in Navajo silversmithing of the late 19th century. Each example reflects a confluence of Native American, Spanish, and Moorish influences, making them as culturally significant as they are visually arresting. Alex Cooper's July 22nd Gallery Auction presents three exceptional examples, each a distinct expression of this living tradition.

Lot 2500 is a Navajo Morenci Turquoise Squash Blossom Necklace (c. 1977), featuring well-matched oval and pear-shaped Morenci spiderweb turquoise set into the naja and blossoms, signed A/I, with a removable extension, weighing 147.1 grams. Estimate: $1,000 – $2,000.

Lot 2504 is a Herbert and Esther Cellicion Rainbow Man Squash Blossom Necklace by Zuni artists Herbert and Esther Cellicion, inlaid with turquoise, coral, mother of pearl, and jet, suspending a double Rainbow Man naja with a stylized Sunface pendant, 29½ inches in length, weighing 212.2 grams. Estimate: $1,000 – $2,000.

Lot 2584 is a Zuni Waterbird Squash Blossom by Vera Luna (c. 1970s), featuring mosaic inlaid waterbirds in turquoise, jet, coral, and mother of pearl surrounding a central floral and waterbird naja, 29 inches in length, weighing 187.9 grams. Estimate: $1,000 – $2,000.
