Torrington Intermediate School

Yesterday was a beautiful day to be outside, perfect weather for our first-ever field day at TIS! We had an Olympic theme with each class representing a different country. Students competed in events such as javelin throw, discus, shot put, 100-meter dash, basketball, soccer, and volleyball.

We ended the day with a Closing Ceremony in the gym, where medals were presented to winning teams.

5th grade students in Team Balch/Sanzone and Lagassie/Wollschlager enjoyed a Colonial Day this week. They experienced hands on crafts, cooking, code ciphering, and games from the colonial era.
In addition, they also had a STEM Day allowing them to try their hand at a variety of STEM challenges.

5th grade students were given the opportunity to create American Revolution posters, illustrating an event from the revolution for the Sons of the American Revolution poster contest. The first place winner (Katrina) who created the Declaration of Independence piece will have the honor of representing Torrington Intermediate School in the National Competition over the summer!

Our TIS 5th graders explored the outdoors this week at White Memorial Nature Center. They participated in hands-on learning opportunities about the ecosystem to correlate with their recent classroom science studies.
