Today, we honor the memory of Topeka Police Department Officer Charles Bohlender Jr. and Officer Jeff Howey, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty while serving and protecting our community. Both officers were killed in a helicopter crash on June 13, 2000. 👮💙

Officer Bohlender, age 33, served with the Topeka Police Department for nine years. He is survived by his wife and three children.

Officer Howey, age 37, dedicated eight years of service to the Topeka community. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Today, and every day, we remember their courage, dedication, and selfless service. Their legacy lives on through those they served, the officers who continue the mission, and the loved ones who carry their memory forward.

Officer Bohlender and Officer Howey will forever be honored, remembered, and deeply missed. ❤️

The U.S. National Weather Service Topeka has issued a Flood Watch for Topeka and Shawnee County from late tonight through Sunday morning due to the potential for heavy rainfall and flash flooding. ⛈️

🚗 If you encounter flooded roadways:
❌ Never drive through standing or moving water
❌ Never go around barricades or warning signs
✅ Turn around and find an alternate route

Just 12 inches of moving water can carry away a vehicle, and flooded roads may be deeper and more dangerous than they appear.
