Topeka Professional Hockey🎉 Volunteers Needed for the Fiesta Parade – Let's Showcase Scarecrows Hockey!

Dear Booster Club Members,

We're excited to once again represent the Topeka Scarecrows Booster Club and Junior Scarecrows Youth Hockey in the Our Lady of Guadalupe Fiesta Parade, and we need your help to make our entry unforgettable!

We'll be decorating our truck, trailer, and Zamboni in a Fiesta Mexicana theme while promoting youth hockey throughout the community.

📅 Parade Details

Date: Saturday, July 11
Meet Time: 9:30 AM (to begin decorating)
Parade Starts: 10:30 AM sharp

Staging Location:
Judicial Center Parking Lot
Near 10th & Harrison Street
(Staging is open from 8:30 AM – 10:30 AM.)

We Need Volunteers To:
🎊 Help decorate the truck, trailer, and Zamboni with our Fiesta theme
🍬 Hand out candy to parade spectators
🏒 Pass out Junior Scarecrows Youth Hockey information and registration flyers
🙌 Walk alongside the float and help promote hockey in Topeka

This is a fantastic opportunity to introduce hundreds of families to our growing youth hockey program while showing the community the excitement surrounding Scarecrows hockey.

Wear your Scarecrows or Booster Club gear, bring your enthusiasm, and help us make this one of the most exciting entries in the parade!

🏒 A Legacy Nearly 30 Years in the Making: The History of Hockey in Topeka 🏒

When people think of hockey, Kansas isn't always the first place that comes to mind—but in Topeka, hockey has become a tradition spanning nearly three decades.

It all began in 1998 when the Topeka ScareCrows took the ice in the Central Hockey League, bringing professional hockey to the Capital City for the very first time. The ScareCrows quickly became fan favorites, drawing thousands of passionate fans to Landon Arena and creating unforgettable memories until 2001.

When the professional franchise transitioned, the Topeka Scarecrows continued as a junior hockey team in the United States Hockey League (USHL) from 2001–2003, helping develop young talent destined for college and professional hockey.

In 2004, the Topeka Tarantulas arrived in the Central Hockey League. Though they played only one season (2004–05), they kept professional hockey alive in Topeka during a challenging time.

Then came one of the most successful eras in the city's hockey history. The Topeka RoadRunners debuted in 2007 in the North American Hockey League (NAHL), later becoming the Topeka Pilots. For 13 seasons (2007–2020), they developed hundreds of elite players who went on to NCAA Division I hockey and professional careers while building another generation of loyal hockey fans.

The tradition continued with the Topeka Capitals, a Tier III junior program that competed from 2013–2015, providing another opportunity for young players to develop and keeping the hockey community growing.

Today, hockey has come full circle.

In 2025, the Topeka Scarecrows returned to professional hockey in the Federal Prospects Hockey League, reviving the name that started it all. More than a new team, the return of the Scarecrows represents a community reconnecting with its hockey roots while looking toward an even brighter future.

Now, with a thriving Booster Club, the return of youth hockey, growing community support, and a vision for a permanent sheet of ice, Topeka isn't just celebrating its hockey history—we're building the next chapter.
