Yesterday, I stood with law enforcement, families of victims, and prosecutors asking Kansas Governor Kelly to reject the clemency requests of 8 of 9 men on death row in Kansas. We ask her instead to honor the verdicts of the juries who heard the cases of the men on death row, the families of the victims who have waited decades for finality, and the men and women in law enforcement whose safety depends on the message this state sends about the consequences of the most serious crimes.

Carr brothers apply for executive clemency, DA confirms 06/04/2026

This clemency request is an outrage to the victims of the Wichita Massacre - Aaron Sander, Brad Heyka, Jason Befort, Heather Muller, and Ann Walenta - and all Kansans. These killers brutally murdered five innocents in a spree of carjackings, rapes, and executions. A jury sentenced them to death. I urge Gov. Kelly to reject clemency and deliver long-overdue justice for the families. As attorney general, I support the death penalty and oppose any effort to set aside the jurors’ decision to impose this penalty.
