Today would have been Trayvon Martin’s 31st birthday.

This photo of Trayvon at space camp reminds us of something that is too often erased — his sense of wonder. Like so many kids, he looked to the sky with curiosity and possibility, imagining a future that included learning, exploration, and becoming something more. Aviation fascinated him. Science intrigued him. He had interests, plans, and a life still unfolding.

In recognition of those dreams, Trayvon was posthumously awarded an honorary aviation degree — a symbolic gesture that acknowledges not only what he loved, but what he never got the chance to pursue. It is a quiet reminder of how much was lost.

Birthdays are meant to mark growth, memories, and time passing forward. For Trayvon, time stopped at 17. What remains is remembrance — of a young man who should be here, who should be aging, learning, laughing, and living.

Today isn’t just about mourning injustice. It’s about honoring a life that mattered, a future that was stolen, and a child who deserved to grow up.
