As you know these posts are to celebrate someone doing great things in our community. Being , every Friday this month will be about an exceptional woman, and today I introduce you to Judy Neff.
Judy is co-owner and brewer at Checkerspot Brewing Co. Judy’s love of brewing started back in 2005, which led to with a start up kit from Maryland Homebrew, which led to homebrewing in the basement brewery with 8 taps, to finally opening Checkerspot in 2018 with her husband, Rob. She has a PhD in microbiology from the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health and after a stint at the NIH and at a start-up company running the lab, she decided to pivot and go full force into the wonderful world of beer. She helped start the in 2012, a craft beer appreciation group for women and is a proud member of the . In the last year and a half, Rob and Judy purchased a building, gutted and renovated it, and opened what we now know to be Checkerspot Brewing Co. in Pigtown. With this move, the SoBo Brewery District was founded, which includes Wico Street Beer Co and Pickett Brewing Company

Today I have the extreme honor of recognizing Patrice Bullock with Bailey’s Heart & Soul Foundation - Bailey Bullock's Heart & Soul Foundation. Patrice lost her son, Bailey, in 2021 to sudden cardiac arrest. Patrice has made it her mission to bring life saving medical equipment to local schools and educate people on how to use them, so that no one else needlessly to lose a child. She is a champion, a warrior, and a survivor! 🫶
