Biblically, strong Christians are not strong because they are sinless. They possess strength and maturity because they deal with sin quickly, at its source, before it can take root in their hearts.

Think of it this way. If someone were to come to your property and threaten your family, where would you rather confront them—out in your driveway or in your living room? The answer, of course, is the driveway. You want to keep the attacker as far from harming your family as possible. Now apply that to the temptations you struggle with. You want to fight sin and the enemy in the driveway of your heart, not in the living room.

The moment a sinful thought hits, the second temptation shows up; we need to address it, not entertain it. We can take it to the Lord in prayer, immediately and honestly, asking Him for His help. Again, biblically, strong Christians are not strong because they are sinless. They choose to deal with it at its source rather than letting it take root in their hearts.

God's Word informs our obligation to treat every human life with dignity, compassion, love, and grace.

God created man in His image. Christ died for man on the cross. Both of these truths remind us that human life is sacred and valuable.

What is a woman?

Everyone seems to be asking this question, but who we look to for the answer matters greatly. We could look to the media, the world around us, or even the influencers of the day. But since God created women, He is the one who gets to have the final say on what a woman is.

Here are a few highlights from D.J.’s most recent sermon and from an entire series of blog posts he did several years ago using Scripture to answer this question:

-A woman PHYSICALLY is an adult female made in the image of God.
-A woman SPIRITUALLY is a sinner in need of salvation, which is fully available to her through faith in Christ.
-A woman SEXUALLY is uniquely made to either live a life of singleness and celibacy or commit her life to a man in covenant marriage.
-A woman MATERNALLY is wonderfully designed to nurture as a mother.
-A woman MISSIONALLY in Christ is expected and equipped to strengthen the church and make the gospel known.
-A woman RELATIONALLY is to bless other women and be respected, cherished, and protected by men.

Scripture teaches us that God is involved in the creative act of every single life made in His image. That means gender is not a cultural construct that individuals are forced into. It is the design of our Creator, and another aspect of His glory. Masculinity in men and femininity in women are both celebrated in the Bible and together celebrate the full image of God.

Have you ever wondered if you have had an encounter with the Holy Spirit? If you are a Christian, that means you have.

It is the Holy Spirit who convicts us of our need for a Savior, draws us to Christ, and reveals the truth of the gospel to us. Even knowing this, so many believers feel considerable confusion about the third person of the Godhead. As a matter of fact, He can often end up being the unseen, underappreciated, and underutilized person of the Godhead.

That’s why D.J. is unpacking some of the Holy Spirit’s roles in our lives according to Scripture over on his blog. You can read the newest blog post here: https://djhorton.com/the-holy-spirit-the-unseen-underappreciated-and-underutilized-person-of-the-godhead/
