CBS News highlighted NFM’s Celebration of Black Culture. and myself got the opportunity to speak with them about the benefits of the exhibition and the inspiration behind our work.

About a month and a half ago, reached out to me asking if I could paint a commission piece for his girl that depicted her along with her Papa’s who passed away. I normally don’t post commission pieces because they’re intimate and I try to keep that special moment for my clients. However, I reallly loved how this one turned out and the freedom I was given to come up with concept; so shoutout to for giving me the green light to post it.

Slide 1: I always do a mockup on my iPad first and present it to my clients.

Slide 2: I sketch it on the canvas and use a mix of water, a bright color paint and pouring medium to “glaze” the painting. The bright color brings more life to the piece and helps track what areas I still need to paint

Slide 3: I paint the background first and work my way to the foreground.

Slides 4-7: painting the ruby heart pendant and diamonds (more content on that soon)

Slide 8: first layer done; I send a picture and video to the client and see if there are any changes that are needed.

Slide 9 and 10: final product. Added gems, gold leaf and chrome marker to make it pop.

Got it done and shipped in 2 weeks. Commissions usually take about a month but we made it happen. Thanks Ben and Taylor and glad y’all like the piece.
