We need Justice

To resolve the border dispute between Sierra Leone and Guinea, the two countries must come together for constructive dialogue to clarify and mutually agree on the exact location of their shared boundaries. Once an agreement is reached, the Sierra Leonean government should install prominent border pillars along the entire length of the frontier and string barbed wire (or similar fencing) between them. Additionally, authorities should maintain a clear strip approximately 50 feet (15 meters) wide on either side of the border by regularly clearing trees, bushes, and grass. This visible cleared zone would make it immediately obvious to anyone whether they are in Guinea or Sierra Leone.

The same approach should be applied to Sierra Leone’s borders with Liberia to prevent confusion and strengthen security.

Sierra Leonean and Guinean officers engage..

The Sierra Leone Ministry of Defence and RSLAF have clarified that they are reviewing the future of Juba Barracks in Freetown as part of a broader modernization effort. The aging, centrally located barracks now surrounded by urban growth and housing only a fraction of personnel in substandard conditions are set to be replaced by a new, modern military accommodation complex on secured land in Masiaka, which will offer better housing, family amenities, training facilities, and room for long-term expansion.

Options being evaluated for Juba Barracks include sale, lease, public-private partnerships, or partial redevelopment, with the proceeds intended to help fund the Masiaka project. No final decision has been made, and any choice will undergo thorough legal, financial, and strategic analysis, ensuring compliance, transparency, stakeholder consultation, and clear benefits for military personnel and national readiness. The ministry has pledged to announce the outcome publicly once the evaluation is complete.
