The NYIC is hosting a Key to the City Family Resource Fair tomorrow, Thursday, January 18, from 11am - 3pm, at the Woodstock Library in the Bronx. Local community-based organizations will be sharing free resources and services! We will be distributing free food and family essentials. This event is free and open to all New Yorkers regardless of immigration status.

Children's Aid is currently hiring for 5 AmeriCorps VISTA positions to start between December and January. Currently, the 5 positions we are hiring for are across the tagged CBOs.

Here is a highlight of of the benefits our AmeriCorps VISTAs receive during their year of service:

1. Bi-weekly living stipend of $1,117.06
2. Option to choose between End of Service Education award ($7,395.00) or a Cash Reward ($1800)
3. Childcare/Healthcare
4. Professional Development
5. Reduction of Education costs

The next Parent Council member SBRT will be highlighting in our Parent Council Profile series is Shanieka Adams!

Shanieka Adams is a born-and-bred New Yorker who grew up in Queens. She moved to the Bronx to start her family about 16 years ago, after marrying her husband. She’s the mother of five, two adopted kids now in their twenties and three biological kids aged four to eighteen. Shanieka says that her kids are her pride and joy. She is their primary caretaker, and has dedicated her time and energy to ensure that they have her support in school. Shanieka is a firm believer in staying involved in her kids’ lives, whether that be through leading PTA meetings as the group’s president or traveling with her daughter’s step team so that they could attend competitions in places as close as Brooklyn or as far as Atlanta.

Shanieka Adams es una neoyorquina nacida y criada que creció en Queens. Se mudó al Bronx para formar su familia hace unos 16 años, después de casarse con su esposo. Es madre de cinco hijos, dos hijos adoptivos que ahora tienen más de veinte años y tres hijos biológicos de entre cuatro y dieciocho años. Shanieka dice que sus hijos son su orgullo y alegría. Ella es su cuidadora principal y ha dedicado su tiempo y energía para asegurarse de que tengan su apoyo en la escuela. Shanieka cree firmemente en mantenerse involucrada en la vida de sus hijos, ya sea dirigiendo las reuniones del PTA como presidenta del grupo o viajando con el equipo de step de su hija para que puedan asistir a competencias en lugares tan cercanos como Brooklyn o tan lejanos como Atlanta.

Last Wednesday, Nov. 2nd, the my.BronxImpact.org team tabled at Hostos College’s “I Stand with Immigrants, Day of Action” fair.

They passed out flyers to students and visitors and got the chance to connect with the delightful Bronx Defenders team!
