In the past, if someone needed to have a document notarized they would either look for someone who had an office with a Notary Public sign displayed on the window or door, or they would go to their local bank or credit union and ask a notary there to notarize their document. Today, in addition to having the option to visit the notary public located in an office or bank, people now have the choice of having a notary public come to them. These are called Mobile Notaries and they can come to your home, business or other public location to notarize your documents. There are also Remote On-line Notaries (“RON”) that have special credentials and training to conduct your notarization through an internet video connection. No matter which type of notary you seek out to notarize your documents, one thing will not change. In Texas, the signer of the document must still present to the notary public a valid unexpired state or federal ID (driver license, state ID, or passport) that contains a picture and signature so make sure your ID has not expired.
