When BTT announced that the late Captain Jose Wejebe would receive the 2026 Curt Gowdy Memorial Award, his daughter Krissy Wejebe shared that it was a fitting tribute to her father:

"Jose lived conservation long before it became a talking point. He loved the fish, the flats, and the future—and he taught reverence through example. This recognition matters because it reinforces something important: Jose didn’t just entertain us. He elevated the standard. Honoring his legacy means continuing to do the same."
