We have to stop labeling everything as “affection” and start recognizing it as communication. When Tyson turned toward me here, it wasn’t just a sweet gesture, it was a nervous-system response. As I applied gentle ribcage compressions, receptors in his fascia signaled through the vagus nerve to calm the heart, deepen the breath, and shift his body from fight-or-flight into rest-and-digest. That subtle turn-in marked the moment his body re-oriented toward connection, and the physiological sign of safety returning. In somatic language: “Threat resolved. Connection restored.” Every movement is data from the nervous system. Once you learn to read it, you stop training behavior and start partnering with biology. #dogsomatics #waldrupsomaticmethod
